FAQ FAQ

Your Account

You may browse the catalog without setting up a personal account if you wish. There are some advantages to setting up an account: Even if you don't wish to purchase anything at the moment, you may see something that you would like to save for the future. You can add it to the cart, and it will still be there when you return at a later date. If you should decide that you really don't want the item, you can easily delete it from the cart by going to the "Cart Contents" page and checking the "Remove" box, and then clicking the "Update" button.

By opening an account, this also puts you on Ann's Tropics mailing list. We seldom send out mass mailings, but when we do you can be assured that it will contain some very nice deals. Nurseries become overstocked in a certain areas from time to time, and I will be able to offer those plants or products at very attractive prices. You won't want to miss that opportunity because it doesn't happen very often.

Plant Names

We try very hard to stay up to date on all of the scientific information regarding each individual plant species and cultivars. We do everything in our power to make sure that we have the correct scientific name for each plant. We cannot ensure that the cultivars name, or the common name of the plant is the same as may be listed in someone else's literature. These names may be different from region to region, and country to country. Many garden centers and nurseries simply make up a name to better market the plant to the public. If you ask for a plant that I don't show in this catalog by scientific name, chances are very good that I'll be able to supply it to you. But, if you ask for a plant by its common or cultivars name, I may or may not know for sure which plant you are really referring to. I will, however, do my best to match the common name you requested with the proper plant, and look forward to receiving an email with your request.

Payment Options:

We accept credit cards, or electronic checks through Pay Pal. You will be given a chance to revue your order for accuracy, and make any changes that may be necessary. You will be then asked to select a payment option. Currently the only option is Pay Pal. Select that options and click continue. You will then be transferred to their secure payment server to complete the transaction. If you currently do not have an account with Pay Pal, their site will painlessly take you step by step through the procedure to open an account. We have selected Pay Pal as our payment source because of their reputation for security, and simplicity. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us for any assistance we can provide.

Our Guarantee

We guarantee our plants to be true to name and will replace or refund, at our option, any which prove to be misnamed. In no case shall we be liable for more than the purchase price of the plants. We cannot guarantee the viability of our plants after they leave us. We will however, do our utmost to ensure your satisfaction.

Having made the lawyers happy, what we really want to do is make you happy. If things go wrong, we will try our best to do what is honest and fair to both you and us in resolving the problem. Here are some guidelines that we try to follow:

  1. We ship our plants in reinforced boxes. If the boxes are crushed or damaged in any way, please open them immediately and inspect the plants. Plants are tough and can really take a beating, and even some breakage of limbs. If a problem has occurred, please notify us immediately so we can begin to resolve it.
  2. You can expect some stress to the plants simply because they are locked up in a dark enclosure for a few days. The most common symptom is discoloration of the leaves, usually yellowing, and sometimes leaf drop. They will recover from this rather quickly once removed from the box and placed in a position with proper light and water
  3. Give the plant a chance. Drop us an email immediately if you think there is a problem. Include a description of the problem with as much detail as you can provide (digital pictures are very helpful). We will analyze the problem and get back to you quickly with a possible solution. Some plants may take a month to recover from the stress of shipping, particularly if their new environment is much different from the nursery environment.
  4. If our best efforts fail within the first month, and it appears that you have cooperated with us fully to help the plant recover, we will give you a full credit for the purchase price. Please be reasonable though. If you forgot to water the plant for 2 weeks, then you shouldn't expect to receive a credit from us.

Shipping

On the checkout page, you will be given an opportunity to select the shipping method that you prefer. Our preferred shipper is Federal Express - Ground or Home Delivery. They are less expensive than UPS, and their Home Delivery record is unsurpassed. Please email us if you would like a shipping service other than those listed on the checkout page. We will attempt to accomadate you.

You will also be provided a space to leave any special instructions, and an address book which will hold up to 5 different delivery addresses (very convenient for sending gifts). Please note that we cannot ship to post office boxes.

We will try to have your order delivered to you in 2 to 7 business days depending on the distance. Shipments can be made year around, But; the weather can be a very large factor. We depend on you for delivery instructions as far as the weather is concerned. Keeping in mind that these are tropical plants, it is not a good idea to ship to, or through an area where the temperatures are below 40 degrees F. We will be glad to take the order, and hold it until you request the shipment to be made.

Very Important: On the form for entering the address, there is an entry for Company Name. This is a code field for both UPS and FedEx. By company, they mean a company in a commercial area, NOT a company operated out of a home in a residential area. If you put a company name in the field, because you run a company out of your home, the chances are very good it will come back to us as undeliverable. At the very least, they will bill us for re-routing the delivery. They run commercial, and residential deliveries from separate units and evidently are unwilling in many cases to support each other. So, if your company is in a residential area, leave the company field empty.

Miami/Dade County Florida

There is a shipping option just for Miami/Dade County in Florida. This is intended for Van delivery within the county of large items, or high quantity purchases that can't be sent through normal shipping channels. You should of course select FedEx or UPS if those rates are lower. Certain items can only be locally delivered.
